2013 Helen Henry Excellence of Care Award Recipient

Deandra R. Hinds, BSN, RN, CMSRN
Registered Nurse
North Shore University Hospital
New York, USA
Zeta Iota Chapter

Mother Theresa once said, “It is not how much you do, but how much love you put in the doing.” Deandra Hinds continues to use these words as her inspiration to grow and evolve in the profession. Hinds fell in love with nursing because it is a profession which provides her with the wonderful responsibility of encouraging, consoling, and providing compassion to others. She attended Binghamton University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2008. For five years she was a medical surgical nurse at North Shore University. In 2012, Hinds achieved the highest award for bedside nurses, Clinical Ladder III.  She is a two-time recipient of the Nursing Clinical Excellence Award. Hinds recently became certified as a medical-surgical nurse by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  Nursing has become more than her profession; it has truly become a part of who she is.

“Receiving the 2013 Helen Henry Excellence of Care Award demonstrates that my peers continue to acknowledge all my efforts to promote excellence at the bedside. There is a saying by the author Max DePree which states, "We cannot become what we need to be by remaining what we are." I am perceived to be an ever evolving healthcare provider. It is a blessing to be able to give all of myself to others with the intent of making a difference in their lives. The award pushes me to learn more, to try harder, to become more and to grow.”
