Debra Walker is a registered nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at North Shore University Hospital. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and has practiced nursing for 14 years. Walker began her career in a medical-surgical unit in North Shore University Hospital. During her time there, she obtained professional certification in medical-surgical nursing and became involved in a national project called Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB). TCAB aimed to improve the safety of patients and the overall quality of hospital care. In 2005, Walker was accepted into the Critical Care Nurse Fellowship Program at North Shore, which fostered her transition into her current role in critical care. She obtained Acute/Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) certification and is currently a senior staff member in the Critical Care Unit (CCU). She is a member of the hospital’s Clinical Ladder program and has taken a leadership role by chairing the CCU's Collaborative Care Council and mentoring new staff.
