Dr. Daniel B. Oerther describes himself as a social engineer designing and implementing solutions and technology that address both community issues and the practical problems embedded within them. Currently the John A. and Susan Mathes Chair of Environmental Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, Mr. Oerther earned his doctorate from the University of Illinois before teaching at the University of Cincinnati for the past decade. His awards include the NSF CAREER, a Fulbright Fellowship, and the Academic Excellence Award from the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. Dr. Oerther has devoted a majority of his highly productive career to work on national health policies and expenditures in Tanzania, Guatemala, and India. He has fostered collaboration and capacity building for research in these nations as well as improved access to health care and has built skills that enable people to improve their own health and that of their families and communities.
