Dr. Long became the fourth dean of the University of Florida College of Nursing, in 1995, and served for 18 years, retiring in July 2013. She was also an associate provost in the University of Florida Office of Academic Affairs. Dr. Long had been dean of the Montana State University College of Nursing prior to her University of Florida appointment. She received her baccalaureate degree with honors from Catholic University and was inducted into the Kappa Chapter of STTI. She earned a master's degree from Wayne State University, specializing in child psychiatric nursing and nursing education, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Behavioral Sciences degree from The Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Long's areas of special interest have been interdisciplinary education and practice and rural health care delivery for underserved populations. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and served as president of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing from 2002 until 2004.
