Emory University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.

The Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing attracts students and faculty who become national and international leaders in nursing practice and research.  The baccalaureate program enrolls over 200 students and is an upper division undergraduate program.  BSN graduates go on to become national and international leaders in patient care, public health, government, and education.  The MSN program currently has 12 areas of concentration and over 160 students. Master’s graduates are qualified to seek certification as nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and clinical nurse specialists.  The school has 65 faculty, and students receive clinical training at a wide range of clinical sites in the metropolitan Atlanta area.   The School has a Ph.D. program which is part of Emory’s Graduate School.  The school has approximately 10,000 alumni.

In 2006, the school received $5.2 million in research funding. Nationally, the school ranks in the top 10 among private nursing schools for research funding from NIH. U.S. News & World Report ranked the school 26th overall and also ranked the school’s nurse midwifery graduate program seventh in the nation.

Emory University is a top-ranked teaching and research institution with the largest and most comprehensive health care system in the state.  Through collaboration among its schools, units and centers, as well as with affiliated institutions such as The Carter Center and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Emory aims at positive transformation in the world. Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs and the Provost of Emory University, the Dean will join a collegial and highly respected leadership team.

Emory University enrolls approximately 12,400 undergraduates, graduate and professional students; has 3,400 faculty members; and generated sponsored research totaling $335 million annually. A member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) since 1995, the university’s academic divisions include Emory College, Graduate School of Arts and sciences, Oxford College, Candler School of Theology, School of Law, Roberto C. Goizueta Business School, Emory School of Medicine, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, and Rollins School of Public Health. The Woodruff Health Sciences Center encompasses the last three academic divisions, Yerkes National Primate Research Center, and Emory Healthcare.

The Dean is integral to the overall university and health system. In addition to providing leadership to the chairs, faculty, staff and students of the school, the Dean is a member of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center leadership team and the Woodruff Health Sciences Leadership Council as well as the Deans Council of Emory University. By further strengthening the academic and operational performance of the School of Nursing, and by helping develop Emory’s strategic partnerships, the Dean, as part of the University’s leadership team, will continue to raise the profile of the school to be an international leader in the advancement of nursing science, education, practice and policy, attracting top tier of faculty, students, and postdoctoral fellows.

The successful candidate should possess an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution, an advanced nursing degree and significant experience in teaching, scholarship and senior management in higher education or in a relevant professional environment.  This individual should also be eligible for RN licensure in the State of Georgia.
