Associate Dean
College of Health Professions and Chair of the School of Nursing
Wichita State University

The College of Health Professions at Wichita State University seeks applicants for the position of Chair and Associate or Full Professor in the School of Nursing.  This is a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment.

Position Description

The person appointed to the WSU College of Health Professions (CHP) position of Associate Dean and Chair of the School of Nursing (SON) reports directly to the Dean of the College, has responsibilities as assigned by the Dean for College administration, and provides the overall administration and direction for the School of Nursing. Provides for the facilitation and coordination of curricular activities to maintain the quality of academic programs in the CHP and the School of Nursing. Community involvement at the local, state, and national levels to represent the School and College. Participates in and develops partnerships with various constituencies in the professional and general community. Collaborates with the Dean and WSU Foundation to develop and meet fund raising goals.

Administers the School of Nursing and completes selected duties within the College of Health Professions, as agreed to with the Dean, including such activities as:

Together with faculty, assures compliance with and maintenance of relevant accreditations (CCNE/State Board of Nursing).

 Serves as a member of the CHP Executive Council, and on other CHP committees as appointed or elected. 

Serves as an advisory member of all SON standing committees and chairing the general nursing faculty meetings.

 Together with faculty, develops and implements the SON strategic plan.

 Prepares and administers the school’s budget; acts as department budget officer.

 Facilitates interdisciplinary activities within the college and university.

Qualifications

Required preparation and experience:
Holds an earned doctoral degree in nursing or related field; holds a graduate degree in nursing; demonstrated successful program and personnel management experience; demonstrated leadership skills; experience teaching in a university baccalaureate and graduate program; established record of research and contributions to related research literature; licensed, or eligible to be licensed as a registered nurse, in Kansas; excellent written and oral communication skills; commitment to diversity.

Preferred preparation and experience:
Active participation in related professional organizations such as the American Nurses Association and others; successfully obtained external funding to support the department and college initiatives, program development, research, and other relevant activities (e.g., grants, foundations); successfully established and maintained community partnerships; successful performance serving as a Chair/Dean; demonstrated successful implementation of policies and procedures that affect the organization of the school.

Conditions of Appointment:
Full time, tenure eligible, 12-month position.  Salary is competitive, commensurate with qualifications.  Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a satisfactory criminal background check as required by Board of Regents policy.

Starting Date: April 1, 2009 (timeline negotiable)
