Director-Level Birthing Center Leadership Position

Exciting opportunity to advance care in this low intervention mother/baby unit.
The Position
This leadership position directs the management and clinical activities of the six-bed LDR, 12-best postpartum, antepartum, operating room and well-baby nursery with approximately 1,200 births annually. Numerous birth options are available including water births and active doula and midwifery programs designed to provide each mother with the experience most attuned to her preferences and medical needs. The position reports to the Director of Nursing and oversees 40 FTEs including an assistant nurse manager. The service is recognized for its high patient care quality and customer satisfaction and is seeking Baby-Friendly USA certification this summer.
Qualified candidates will be individuals with a minimum of five years of director-level leadership experience in labor and delivery, with some background in neonatal intensive care preferred. Ideal candidates will be dynamic leaders with excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate and continually advance clinical practice and improve patient outcomes. Successful personal attributes include a strong operations background with expertise in staffing, productivity and acuity systems, as well as high visibility and exceptional follow-through skills. A proven ability to maintain and enhance strong, collaborative physician relationships and manage high-performing teams is important. A Bachelor’s degree, a current California license, and BLS-C instructor, as well as CPR certification is required, ACLS preferred.

The Community
Located in northern California, just west of Sacramento and an hour and a half east of San Francisco, this community of approximately 65,000 is an environmentally and socially conscious university town. Residents have a multitude of outdoor recreation options, including biking, boating, swimming, baseball and soccer fields, fishing, camping, nature parks, playgrounds, rose gardens, and wildlife areas. Arts and cultural events are also quite popular, with local exhibits, galleries, opera, performing arts, and museums in the area. Additionally, the local university offers an arboretum and an equestrian center. There are many unique shops featuring handcrafted jewelry, pottery, and original paintings. This locale has a Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild, wet winters and dry, hot summers. The cost of living is less than similarly-sized locations in California, with a variety of housing options and a strong educational system.
