Hawai'i State Center for Nursing
The Hawai‘i State Center for Nursing is recruiting qualified applicants for an executive position as Director to begin January 2009. The mission of the Center for Nursing is to assure that the State of Hawai‘i has the nursing resources to meet the health care needs of its people. The Center serves as a catalyst to bridge the various worlds of practice, policy, education, business, philanthropy and research.
As the hub of statewide strategic planning and data collection, the Center supports proactive workforce planning; develops initiatives and research on best practices; evaluates and disseminates strategies that will lead to improved retention among nurses and recruitment of a diverse nursing workforce. The Center builds coalitions across the broad spectrum of stakeholders in Hawai‘i and facilitates the efforts of the many individuals and groups.
The successful candidate will serve as the chief executive officer of the Center with responsibility for administering its goals as set forth in Chapter 304D, Hawaii Revised Statutes. The Executive Director carries out the fiscal, personnel, planning, convening and other functions necessary to meet the goals of the Center, and provide for its effective and efficient operation. Work is performed with the guidance of the Governor appointed Advisory Board. The Executive Director reports to the Chairperson of the Advisory Board and the Dean of the University of Hawai’i School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene and is evaluated annually by the Advisory Board or its designee.
Minimum qualifications include: Master’s degree in nursing, business or other healthcare discipline (Baccalaureate degree must have been in nursing); Three (3) years administrative experience at the senior/executive administrator level; Eligible for RN license in Hawai'i; Knowledge of nursing workforce, other allied health professionals and para-professionals, and related health care trends and issues; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong management and interpersonal skills; Evidence of leadership abilities; Proven ability to interact effectively with a variety of individuals and groups such as government leaders, private sector, academia, consumers, payers, practitioners and representatives of the health care system; Proven ability to raise funds; Knowledge and understanding of state legislative process.
