Candidate Information

Name and Credentials: Beverly S. Reigle, RN, PhD
Candidate Position: Secretary

Professional Background
I am an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing.  I received my BS in Nursing at Wheaton College, MS in Nursing at Texas Woman’s University and PhD in Nursing at The University of Texas at Austin.  My clinical and research focus is breast cancer survivorship.

In what ways are you qualified for this position and what leadership experience do you have in the honor society and other organizations?
Over a span of 25 years, I have had the opportunity to serve in multiple STTI positions at the local, regional and international levels.  Currently, I am Secretary of the STTI Board of Directors (BOD).  In addition to my role as BOD Secretary, I serve as a liaison to the International Honor Society Nursing Building Corporation (IHNSB) and Regional Chapters Coordinating Committee (RCCC), Chair of the BOD Leadership Development Committee and the Biennial Convention Resolutions Committee, and have served as chartering officer for three new chapters.  Previous positions at the international level include membership on the IHNSB Corporation Board of Directors, Bylaws Task Force, Panel of Visitors & Consultants, and the Translational Research Task Force.  I also served as Honorary Chair of the Conventions Arrangement Committee and Chair of the Biennial Convention Registration Committee.  At the regional level, I served three terms (six years) as a regional coordinator (Region 4 Coordinator for two years involving 74 chapters, and Region 9 Coordinator for four years involving 31 chapters). I assisted in the design and implementation of several Chapter Leader Academies and presented various chapter-related topics (e.g., Developing a Chapter Policy and Procedure Manual) at Biennial Conventions.  At the local level, I have served in multiple officer and chair positions (e.g., chapter president twice, 1993-1996 and 2005-2007, vice president, counselor, strategic planning task force chair, leadership development advisory council chair, heritage advisory council chair) and currently, I am Beta Iota Chapter Secretary and Chair of the Communications Advisory Council.
Other professional leadership roles include serving as Vice President of the Southwestern Ohio Nurses Association (SONA), Chair of the Ohio Nurses Association Bylaws Committee, and Chair of the SONA Bylaws Committee.  I have served as Secretary of the Tri-State Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and have been a member of local ONS committees.  For 19 years, I worked with the American Cancer Society (ACS) and held leadership positions at the local and state levels.  I served as the Secretary of the Hamilton County ACS Unit Board of Directors for four years and as a Board of Directors member for 13 years.  As an officer, I served on the Unit Strategic Planning Task Force and the Hope Lodge Design Team.  Other ACS positions include Chair of the Volunteer Involvement Committee, Breast Health Awareness (BHA) Committee, BHA Economically Disadvantaged Demonstration Project, and BHA Program Design and Training Subcommittee.  At the division level, I served on the Breast Cancer Core Committee and Co-Chaired the Triple Touch (Breast Cancer) Committee.  In 2001, I was the recipient of the ACS Hamilton County Unit Outstanding Leadership Award.

In addition to these experiences, my years of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and my opportunities as an interdisciplinary researcher have permitted me to develop and refine my leadership abilities.  I believe I am well positioned to serve a second term as Secretary of the Board of Directors and look forward to the opportunity to continue in that role, if elected.

Should you be elected to serve, what would you like to accomplish?
As we increase in organizational size, responsibility, and global influence, I want to ensure that we remember, respect and continue to build on the rich heritage entrusted to each of us as nurse scholars.   I believe we need to strategically develop global health care policies that reflect our mission and our standards of excellence; that we provide the resources needed to continue the development, dissemination and translation of nursing knowledge; that we mentor our young members to assume leadership roles and, at the same time, provide continuity of leadership by recognizing and using the wisdom of our seasoned leaders; and that we seek a stronger interdisciplinary health care focus as we expand globally.  I look forward to the excitement of organizational growth which will permit greater global visibility and, therefore, opportunities to impact health care worldwide.
