Candidate for Regional Chapters Coordinating Committee
STTI Global Region: North America
Region 5 Coordinator

Name and Credentials:
Connie A. Scott, MS, RN, NEA-BC

Candidate Statement
I am the current Region 5 Coordinator and have held this position since 2009. I have enjoyed serving STTI in this capacity and have learned a great deal about STTI. In this role, I mentor the chapters in Region 5 and provide input to the STTI Board of Directors by serving on the Regional Coordinators Coordinating Committee (RCCC). As part of the RCCC, I served on the Chapter Key Award Task Force which was charged with the task of revising the criteria for the Chapter Key Award for the next biennium.

I have held the position of Administrative Director Specialty Care Services, Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill., for the past 18 years. In this position I oversee more than 300 employees who provide care to patients in specialty units of mental health, home care, hospice, skilled nursing unit, rehabilitation and wound care.

My involvement with the honor society started at my local chapter, Pi Pi in 2000 and has spanned the past 11 years. After Pi Pi was chartered I became the first Chapter President and have served as Secretary, Chapter Key Award Chair and Newsletter Editor. On the regional level, I have served on the Region 5 Coordinating Committee since 2004 and have Chaired the Region 5 Awards Committee the past three bienniums and worked on collecting entries for the Showcase of Excellence for the Chapter Leader Academy in 2006 and 2008. At the international level, I have participated as an Awards Judge for Chapter Key Awards and other Chapter Awards.

Other leadership experience includes my involvement with the Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders (IONL). I served as President in 2008, Treasurer in 2006-2007 and Secretary in 2001-2002. As president of IONL, I participated in Chapter Leader activities with the American Organization of Nurse Executives and represented IONL on the Illinois Coalition of Nursing Resources Board.

I am very active as a volunteer in my community. I currently hold a board position on the local community college health care advisory board, where I served as President in 2006 -2007. During my presidency, we were able to provide guidance in restructuring the nursing division at the college and start the journey toward NLN accreditation for their nursing programs. I am a past board member of the local YWCA Board, where I served 6 years. I am a past board member of the Illinois Hospital Association Post Acute Care Consistency Section and provided input on issues and concerns facing rehabilitation, home health and skilled nursing services.

If elected to my position I hope to accomplish the following:

  • Promote Vision 2020 goals within the region.
  • Strengthen membership involvement by engaging chapter leaders to reach out to not only academia but those in clinical practice.
  • Encourage chapters to tap into the many resources and opportunities STTI has for its members.
  • Continue to foster community partnerships and collaborative initiatives within the region.

Facilitate the work of the chapter leaders by advancing initiatives that meet the needs of the chapters and fulfill the mission of STTI.
