Name and Credentials: Julie Jones, RN, MS
Candidate Statement
I have been a nurse for almost 15 years. I have worked in various settings including Oncology, Women’s Health, Surgery, Medicine and Endoscopy. I have had various roles in these settings including staff nurse, charge nurse, graduate teaching assistant and most recently Clinical Informatics Specialist. Currently, I am working in helping to implement a new electronic health record system at Fletcher Allen Health Care. In 2007, I received a master in nursing, as an adult nurse practitioner.
As the Region 15 Coordinator, I established a robust regional committee that included a Global Initiative Committee which the main goals were to enhance both global membership and involvement in regional activities. The members of the committee were from chapters throughout the region including our European chapters. Through chapter donations, we were able to raise over $2,500 from 13 chapters within Region 15, reflecting a 40% response rate. The funds that were raised will support several $500 leadership education grants for members outside the U.S. to attend the Leadership Summit in Europe, the Research Congress in Mexico or Biennial Convention. In addition, the remaining funds will be used for membership subsidies for global members within the region.
I have been involved with STTI ever since I was inducted in 2002 into Kappa Tau chapter. I have held several positions on the board including President, Fundraising and Governance Committee member. I have work with our members to help support our local nursing students to go to Bangladesh and provide global health education and training to the villagers of Manikganj, Bangladesh. We have supported Global Leadership night which one of our board members presented information on how we support the Vision 2020 as a chapter. I also helped to establish an e-mentoring program for new inductees to be paired up with chapter board members.
I have also served on Region 15 board as Communications Director. I have worked within the region to develop the Technology Taskforce to assess the technology uses and availability within the chapter. The information gathered will help Region 15 to develop a communication plan and use the technology resources within the region.
If elected, I would like to continue our work on Vision 2020, to increase the health of all chapters and to build on communications between our global chapters. I would like to continue to build upon Cathy Catrambone’s work on strengthening the RC orientation program and transition process; building RC capacity by addressing individual needs of coordinators to prepare them to lead in the region a the onset and throughout their term in office; and revamping RC planning for wider adoption of best practices within the regions.
