Involving Your Members in Recruitment
- Send a letter to each member asking them to nominate someone (Call for Nominations - member/non-member).
- Include an article in the chapter newsletter that encourages other members to nominate their colleagues. Be sure to include the appropriate contact information in the article (Nomination Form).
- Hang Sigma Theta Tau International information in the school of nursing, local hospitals or health care facilities.
- Send an introductory letter to potential community nurse leaders. Have the Chapter Faculty Counselor contact the prospects a few weeks later.
- Host an event in a location that employs a large number of potential members. Take this opportunity to introduce Sigma Theta Tau International's benefits and services. You may also invite them to future chapter events.
- Have a designated community leader officer/chair who is responsible for recruiting community leaders.
- Don't underestimate "word of mouth" recruitment-relay the excitement and positives of meetings you attend to potential community leader members with whom you work.
- Hold a brainstorming session. Think of every significant nursing leader in your school and community, and verify if he/she is a member. Sometimes, the most obvious candidates are overlooked because the chapter assumes that person has already been inducted.
- Consider guest speakers for classes, members of other professional organizations in nursing and new faculty as sources for community leaders.
- Send a data sheet on membership criteria to local agencies, hospitals and clinics.
- Promote the society in local Research Days or health fairs where a number of non-member nurses will be participating to increase awareness.
- Profile the biography of a newly inducted Nurse Leader in your newsletter.
