Join an Existing Chapter
Establishing a Sigma Theta Tau International chapter is a rewarding process and it allows an institution of higher education to provide the many benefits that come with being a member of the honor society, which include professional knowledge, leadership opportunities and career guidance.
You may decide to join an existing chapter if your institution has a small student population or is in close proximity to an institution with an existing chapter or at-large chapter. With this type of collaboration, you would apply for a charter amendment with the existing chapter or at-large chapter.
The basic process for joining an existing chapter or at-large chapter is:
- Request information from Sigma Theta Tau International headquarters with intent to join an existing chapter.
- Establish interest at your school to join with the existing chapter.
- Form a steering committee to include officers from the existing chapter and representatives from the school wanting to join the chapter.
- School and chapter work collaboratively to begin forming a cohesive group.
- Apply with an existing chapter or at-large chapter.
The charter amendment application process includes the following steps:
- Submit charter amendment application.*
- Charter amendment ceremony occurs.
*The following step in the application process is dependent upon whether this step is approved.
