Return to Nursing Refresher Program - Unit 7 Care of the Terminally Ill

Overview:

Unit 7 contains 3 modules with one lesson in each module. The course content for these lessons was authored by Linda Schickedanz RN, MSN, CNS (Texas) and appropriate acknowledgements are listed below. This unit addresses Death and the Dying Process, Palliative Care and Symptom Management.

“Dying is a fact of life, a terminal condition. A health care system protecting and honoring quality of life at the end of life is a tremendous need in health care today. Unit 7 will increase nurses’ awareness of key issues in caring for patients and families at the end of life. Problems in end-of-life care and holistic care of dying patients will be discussed as well as the myths and truths surrounding death. The stages of death, dying and near-death experiences will be addressed to provide nurses with insight into the care needed throughout the dying process. Case studies are presented to illustrate key points” (Schickedanz, L.)

After reviewing the lessons take the unit post-test. Be sure to complete the evaluation following the test in order to receive your certificate.
