Corporate-funded grants presented at biennial convention
The STTI Foundation for Nursing, with support from corporate friends, was proud to award three 2011 nursing research grants during the Biennial Convention in Grapevine, Texas, USA: US $9,000 Quality Improvement/Patient Safety Nursing Research Grant funded by Hill-Rom; US $9,000 Simulation in Nursing Research Grant funded by CAE Healthcare; and US $6,000 Educational Assessment Nursing funded by ATI Nursing Education.
Fitness events inspire contributions to research
The 2011 Fitness for Research events, conducted during the biennial convention and sponsored by the Tau Chi Chapter at Tarleton State University, generated US $3,480 in support. The Tau Lambda-at-Large Chapter was recognized for raising the most money.
Library launches on all-new platform
The Virginia Henderson International Nursing Library — initially launched online in 1995 then moved to the World Wide Web in 2000 thanks to US $2 million in support from Ruth Lilly — was re-launched in November 2011 on a new platform provided by BioMed Central, an open access library. “Moving to the BioMed platform allows users to easily browse and search content, submit full-text documents in all file formats and upload to specific collections,” said STTI CEO Patricia Thompson, EdD, RN, FAAN. “The library is STTI’s gift to nursing including free access to conference abstracts from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Conferences, Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing, Emergency Nurses Association, Eastern Nursing Research Society, Midwest Nursing Research Society, Oncology Nursing Society, and Western Institute of Nursing.”

The 2011 biennial convention provided the perfect opportunity for the Foundation to bring donors and grant recipients together for a “Meet and Greet.” The Vision Society — a new annual giving society recognizing donors who have made consecutive, annual donations totaling US $500 — was also announced. This giving level is a part of the new Every Member Supporting Vision 2020 campaign.

Leadership Education Grant recipients attend convention
Thanks to donations to the STTI Foundation’s Leadership Fund and support from chapters, 17 honor society members representing Botswana, Canada, Pakistan, Mexico, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States were able to attend the 2011 Biennial Convention in Grapevine, Texas, USA.

Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy to launch in February
The faculty has been named and scholars selected for the 2012-13 Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy (NFLA) launching this month in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. A generous grant from The Elsevier Foundation will provide support for 16 scholars, 16 mentors and eight faculty representing 29 universities, 15 states/provinces and four countries including Australia, Canada and Thailand to be engaged in the two-year leadership program designed to develop the next generation of nurse faculty.
Grant supports geriatric nursing leadership in the Midwest
The Retirement Research Foundation (RRF) has awarded the STTI Foundation for Nursing a US $136,000 grant to support 10 mentor/mentee pairs from the Midwest to participate in the 2012-2013 Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy (GNLA). “We are incredibly grateful to RRF for their generosity. We value their partnership and look forward to the collaboration. We are committed to increasing the knowledge of nurses working with older adults across the United States,” says STTI President Suzanne Prevost, PhD, RN, COI.
