Bonnie Wesorick has recently demonstrated her ongoing support of the mission of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International through her Pillar Society donation to the Foundation. Bonnie is the founder and president of the Clinical Practice Model Resource Center (CPMRC)TM and chairperson of the CPMRC International Consortium.

News of note from Heritage Society donors 


Pegge L. Bell will assume the position of dean of the College of Health Sciences at Barry University as of July 2008, which will subsume nursing, biomedical sciences, health services administration, and public health programs.

Robin Britt assumed a new role as senior development officer at the Institutional Development Department at Texas Woman's University (TWU) in September 2007. This position was created to raise funds for the newly created TWU Houston Institute of Health Science. Robin has maintained her tenured professorship in the College of Nursing and graduate faculty status.
 
Brenda Cleary assumed a new position as director of the Center to Champion Nursing in America, which is a joint initiative of AARP, the AARP Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Rita K. Clifford, the associate dean for student affairs at the University of Kansas School of Nursing, has been awarded a "Heroes in Healthcare" award from Ingram's Magazine. In addition to this award, she has received the 2007 Honorary Recognition Award from the Kansas State Nurses Association.
 
Juli F. Daniels has accepted a new position with Nova Southeastern University (Ft. Myers branch campus and main campus at Ft. Lauderdale) as assistant professor.  She is teaching in the generic BSN and RN to BSN, with a focus in simulation, and in the online master's and PhD nursing programs.

Lola M. Fehr has turned her hobby of parliamentary procedure into a credential as registered parliamentarian.  She believes that nurse parliamentarians bring a unique perspective that can be especially helpful when conducting business in nursing organizations.

Vernice D. Ferguson will be the first nurse to receive the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award during the 34th Annual FREDDIE Awards. The award will be presented during the MediMedia's gala honoring the best in the year's health and medical productions and is known as the "Oscars of Health and Medicine." The ceremony will be on 14 November in Philadelphia.
 
Carolyn S. Gunning will be retiring 30 June 2008 from the position of provost and vice president for academic affairs at Texas Woman's University, which she has held for the past three years. She will continue to live in Denton, Texas, and is looking forward to relaxing and traveling.
 
Cheryl E. MacRae Bergeron is now president of the Georgia Association of Nurse Anesthetists and was appointed to the Advance Practice Committee of the Georgia Board of Nursing.
 
Nancy Ridenour is working on the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means as part of her Robert Wood Johnson Fellowship and is working on several Medicare issues. Nancy encourages nurses to apply for the fellowship.

Gwen D. Sherwood is co-editor along with Professors Dawn Freshwater (UK) and Beverly Taylor (Australia) for a new book, International Textbook of Reflective Practice, the first joint book publishing venture between Sigma Theta Tau International and Wiley-Blackwell Publishing. Gwen is professor and associate dean for academic affairs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Theresa M. "Terry" Valiga will assume the newly created position of director of the Institute for Educational Excellence at the Duke University School of Nursing on 1 July 2008. Theresa leaves a strong legacy at the National League for Nursing (NLN), where she served for nine years as chief program officer and helped to position the NLN as the leader in nursing education and the voice for nurse educators.

Donna J. Zazworsky was featured as a Leader to Watch in the April 2008 issue of Nurse Leader. Interviewer Ann Marie T. Brooks asked Donna about influences on her chosen career path, her involvement in community work and her plans for the future.  To read the full article, go to

Brick Paver Campaign for Nursing Excellence
Virginia Henderson Fellow Nancy C. Sharts-Hopko is chairing the Foundation's 2007-09 Renewable Gifts Committee. Other Heritage Society donors joining Nancy on this committee are Suzanne C. Beyea, Robin Britt, Debra A. Danforth, Victoria Nikou and Barbara S. White. This committee is responsible for overseeing the Brick Paver Campaign for Nursing Excellence, which has raised more than US $2.6 million toward the US $3.5 million goal to support research, leadership and the honor society's future. Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy
Sigma Theta Tau International recently implemented the Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy (GNLA), which is funded by a grant from the John A. Hartford Foundation. This academy is run through the International Leadership Institute, which is directed by Virginia Henderson Fellow Mary Rita Hurley. In addition, Virginia Henderson Fellows Rita K. Chow and Joanne Disch are serving on the GNLA Advisory Committee. To learn more about this academy, visit the
