End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC).

Karen A. Grigsby was elected secretary of the 2013-2015 STTI Building Corporation board of directors.

K. Sue Haddock was appointed to the 2013-2015 STTI Foundation for Nursing board of directors.

Martha Hill was appointed chair of the Global Advisory Panel on the Future of Nursing at STTI.

Tara Hulsey was elected to the STTI board of directors at the 42nd Biennial Convention in November 2013.

Mary Rita Hurley was named president of the
National Gerontological Nursing Association in October 2013. Her term is until 2015.

Carol Huston will serve as lead faculty for the
Experienced Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy (ENFLA), which will be launched in October 2014 through the STTI/Chamberlain College Center for Excellence in Nursing Education.

Suzan Kardong-Edgren was presented with the National League for Nursing Award for Excellence in Nursing Education Research. She was appointed the research advisor to the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning.

Lucie Kelly was honored in September 2013 as a
Legacy Laureate from the University of Pittsburgh.

Rita Lourie was named the co-chair for Hadassah’s National Center for Nurses Councils.

Susan Ludington is beginning a book about the evidence-based effects of Kangaroo Care for Springer publications, and it should be completed by June 2014 with a publication date of January 2015.

Address Malata was appointed to the 2013-2015 STTI Foundation for Nursing board of directors.

Angela Barron McBride was elected to fellowship in the Provisional Hong Kong Academy of Nursing in May 2013.

Scott E. Moore was appointed chair of the Next Generation Leaders Task Force at STTI.

Donna M. Nickitas was honored as a Distinguished Scholar and Fellow member of the National Academies of Practice on 6 April 2013. She was also appointed to the 2013-2015 STTI Building Corporation board of directors.

Joanne Olson was appointed to the 2013-2015 Nursing Knowledge International (NKI) board of directors.

Karen Pehrson was appointed to the 2013-2015 NKI board of directors.

Suzanne Prevost was named dean of the University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing. Suzanne was also elected to and appointed as chair of the 2013-2015 Leadership Succession Committee at STTI.

Jennifer C. Robinson was elected as a Fellow of the American Heart Association through the Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing. She also graduated from the Leadership Development Program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., USA, in July 2013.

Virginia K. Saba attended and sponsored the
1st Clinical Care Classification (CCC) System User Group Seminar 3-4 December 2013 in Nashville, Tenn., USA.

Patricia C. Seifert had a Scientific Statement from the American Heart Association titled Patient Safety in the Cardiac Operating Room: Human Factors and Teamwork.

Nancy Sharts-Hopko was re-elected as treasurer of the STTI board of directors at the 42nd Biennial Convention in November 2013.

Gwen Sherwood was appointed the 2013-2015 Research Scholarship Advisory Council chair at STTI.

Jean Shinners had two abstracts accepted for the 5th International Nurse Education Conference that will take place in Noordwijkerhout, Netherlands, in June 2014. Her podium presentation is Transition to practice: Designing, implementing, and evaluating an evidence-based nurse residency, and her poster presentation is Improving retention, confidence, and competence with an evidence-based nurse residency.

Theresa Valiga received the Dorothy Otto Research Award from the National League for Nursing in September 2013.

Mary Katherine Wakefield, an alumna of the School of Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin, has been named the
Graduate School’s Outstanding Graduate Alumnus for 2013.

Dee Welk will be the keynote speaker at the research and evidence-based practice conference in Shreveport, La., USA, hosted by Beta Chi and Lambda Mu Chapters on 4 April 2014.

Heritage Society News


2013 Heritage Society Dinner and Silent Auction


On Sunday, 17 November 2013, the Heritage Society Dinner was held during the 42nd Biennial Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., USA. Heritage Society donors and their guests enjoyed an elegant evening at the Indiana Historical Society. Juli Maxworthy, 2011-2013 Foundation board chair, and Diane Billings, 2011-2013 Foundation board Fellows Committee chair, welcomed the new Heritage Society donors and acknowledged many individuals who assisted the Foundation throughout the biennium.

The silent auction raised US $9,157 in support of the Foundation. Many lovely items were donated for the auction, including several jewelry pieces, regional items, books, and nurse memorabilia. Thank you to everyone who donated items and participated in the auction.

Episteme Award Recipient


Sigma Theta Tau Fellow Betty R. Ferrell is the 13th   recipient of the Episteme Laureate Award presented by The Baxter International Foundation and STTI. On 17 November 2013 during the 42nd Biennial Convention, Dr. Ferrell was a plenary speaker as part of the recognition. You can read more about her here.
