Greetings and welcome to the “Geriatric Nursing Community”. This exciting endeavor has been developed in response to the expressed needs and desires of nurses around the world who are dedicated to serving older adults.
This community is designed to provide a platform for nurses in long term care, acute hospitals, community agencies, universities, and other settings to share experiences, resources, and expertise in the care of older adults.
During the 2007 Sigma Theta Tau International Convention a special session was held to discuss the creation of this community. Nurses from various settings and different countries met to share ideas about their needs for an online cooperative focused on geriatric nursing practice, research, and education.
The resources, stories, dialogue, and expertise will grow throughout the community as the membership in this site increases. Conversations between clinicians, researchers, and leaders in the field will provide a multitude of opportunities for nurses who practice in gerontology to develop professional networks, discuss real world issues and experiences, and propose future research projects.
We hope that you find this an important and vibrant addition to your professional network.
