Application Information

What is included in a complete MCH NLA application?

The following materials represent a complete application:

  • MCH Nurse Leadership Academy application for the mentee (includes project description) and the mentor
  • Resume or CV for the mentee and the mentor
  • Letter of support from agency/organization/institution (A/O/I) for the mentee and the mentor

What criteria will be used during the selection process?

The review panel will evaluate and score the submitted applications based on the following criteria:

  • Mentee Candidate
    • MCH Nurse Leadership Academy application
    • Leadership project
    • Letter of support from A/O/I
  • Mentor Candidate
    • Mentor MCH Nurse Leadership Academy application
    • Letter of support from A/O/I Mentee’s application and leadership project will be reviewed and ranked on the following criteria:
  • Mentee’s leadership potential, including:
    • Leadership experience
    • Leadership goals
    • Leadership skills
  • Mentee’s commitment to the advancement of maternal-child health nursing, including:
    • Experience in the care of childbearing women and children up to 5 years old
    • Articulated commitment to the advancement of maternal-child health nursing
  • Project:
    • Potential to foster the mentee's leadership development
    • Potential to improve health care of women and children up to 5 years old
    • Potential for the project's sustainable positive impact upon the healthcare organization/system
    • Potential for project’s completion in 18-month time frame

Mentor’s application will be reviewed on the following criteria:

  • Mentor has:
    • Substantial preparation and experience as a leader
    • Indicated interest in the goals of the mentee
    • Previous experience as an effective mentor
    • Access to networks of leaders and key organizations
    • Ability to foster the mentee’s leadership development
    • Ability to provide guidance to the mentee in completing the leadership project

Letters of support from A/O/I will be reviewed on the following criteria:

  • A/O/I letter indicates:
    • Recommendation for mentee and mentor participation in the Leadership Academy
    • Support for the attainment of the identified project goals (time, resources, etc.) ◦Financial commitment
