Academy Impact

In recent years, the International Leadership Institute (ILI) has made great strides in the evaluation of the leadership academies. These efforts have proven to be beneficial in communicating the growth that participants experience throughout their leadership journey. 
 
The Leadership Practices Inventory® (LPI), is a standardized evaluation component created by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner which measures the five practices of exemplary leadership:
  • Model the way
  • Inspire a shared vision
  • Challenge the process
  • Enable others to act
  • Encourage the heart

Participants in all the academies (Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy, Geriatric Nurse Leadership Academy, and the Maternal-Child Health Nurse Leadership Academy) self-report via the inventory on all five practices at three different points during the cohort cycle. For all three academies, the 2010-2011* participants' overall LPI scores increased significantly (p < 0.01) from baseline to 18-month follow-up assessment, indicating an improvement in leadership behaviors as shown in the graph below.

* Data for the 2012-2013 cohorts is not available. These cohorts are still in progress.
** The NFMLD (Nurse Faculty Mentored Leadership Development) program was the pilot to the NFLA (Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy).
