STTI Helen Henry Excellence of Care
Award Recipients Announced
INDIANAPOLIS — Through the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Foundation for Nursing, Bonnie Wesorick, MSN, RN, FAAN, established the Helen Henry Excellence of Care Award to recognize nurse healers working at the bedside and to inspire others to achieve excellence in bedside care. The award was established in honor of her mother, Helen Henry.
Bonnie Wesorick, founder of CPM Resource Center (now part of Elsevier Clinical Solutions), credits her mother, in large measure, for her decision to become a nurse. Although Helen Henry wasn’t a nurse, she modeled qualities that inspired her daughter to become the nursing leader she is.
“My mother was the matriarch of a large family and a loving, nonjudgmental, helping soul. She cared for everybody who was sick, and I watched her. She seemed to know everything that anybody should know to give good care.”
Honorees exhibit qualities such as compassion, courage, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. They also practice evidence-based care, create individualized plans of care, establish partnerships with peers, and inspire peers, patients, and families.
