Glossary of Terms
Advanced Practice Nursing - Performed by a nurse who has education beyond a bachelor's degree in nursing; includes clinical specialists and nurse practitioners
Alternative/Complimentary Healing - non-traditional or "alternative" approaches to health care
Association Nursing - A field that describes nurses who work for nursing associations
Collaborative Practice - Practicing health care providers who work in a group, often including nurses, physicians, social workers and psychologists
Correctional Health Care - Health care provided to incarcerated individuals
Health Care Systems - Often large organizations that offer a wide range of services such as hospital, home care and hospice services
Home Care - Health care administered in a patient's home
Palliative Care - Health care that seeks to improve the quality of life for patients with life-limiting conditions through pain relief, symptom management and restoration of function
Parish Nursing - Health promotion and assistance with a spiritual component provided by a nurse to members and families in a church parish.
School Nursing - Health care provided by nurses in schools to students
