New guide for nurses makes job hunt easier
STTI publishes Landing Your Perfect Nursing Job
INDIANAPOLIS – A recent report from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing raises concerns about the projected shortage of nurses as baby boomers age. However, nurses entering the job market are finding that securing a position isn’t guaranteed. According to a June 2012 article in Forbes, a survey by the National Student Nurses Association found that 36 percent of nursing graduates in the class of 2011 had not secured positions as registered nurses (RNs) as of last fall.
The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) has published a book that will help nurses stand out from all the other résumés and curricula vitae employers receive.
Landing Your Perfect Nursing Job by Lisa Mauri Thomas, MS, is an in-depth guide to navigating today’s job market and economic environment. The book provides nurses with tips and solutions to job hunting, including how to:
• Customize and improve their cover letters and résumés
• Use keywords in job application for electronic selection
• Prepare and practice for interviews
• Network effectively
• Successfully communicate by email, by phone, and in person
• Plan and manage their job search with checklists and calendars
Thomas draws on more than 20 years of experience in job search and résumé writing strategy in the health care industry to craft an easy-to-understand guide.
Landing Your Perfect Nursing Job is for both the entry-level nurse and the seasoned professional seeking to change specialties, move up the job ladder, or re-enter the workforce. Supplemented with real success stories from the field and direct quotes from nurse recruiters, this book helps nurses strategically get through the job search process in order to best prepare to find the job of their dreams.
“This is a powerful book! At a time when nurses are struggling to find jobs, Thomas brings all the right advice to the table. She spells everything out in great detail, not just what to do, but why and how. Nothing is left to chance.”
