Rules and Recognition
Through the Get-a-Member campaigns, the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International members have the opportunity to recognize nurse colleagues and friends who exemplify nursing excellence.
Members are asked to participate in the campaign in two ways:

Send an e-mail invitation to friends or colleagues asking them to submit a nurse leader application or
-
Submit a friend or colleague’s name and contact information to headquarters so an invitation to submit a nurse leader application can be extended.
A challenge has also been extended to chapters. Chapters are encouraged to promote the Get-a-Member campaign to their membership and induct a minimum of 10 qualified nurse leaders from their community.
Nurse leader candidates must meet all membership criteria which include:
- be legally recognized to practice nursing in his/her country
- have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent in any field
- demonstrate achievement in nursing
All submitted applications will follow the standard review process for nurse leader candidates.
Eligibility - Member-Get-a-Member
Only active members of the honor society are eligible for prizes. In order to be considered active, members must be up-to-date with their membership fee payments. In order to be credited with the referral, the member’s full name and city or state/province must appear on the nurse leader candidate’s application. Only referrals made between 1 October 2007 and 30 September 2008 will be eligible; referrals received before 1 October 2007 are not eligible.
Eligibility - Chapter-Get-a-Member
In order to be eligible for the Leadership Academy (formerly Chapter Leader Academy) registration drawing, chapters must have met all chapter responsibilities as outlined in the honor society’s bylaws and have inducted a minimum of 10 nurse leaders from October 2007 to September 2008.
Prizes - Member-Get-a-Member
Each participating member will receive:
- an honor society member static sticker
- recognition on the honor society’s Web site
- recognition at the biennial convention and/or Leadership Academy
Quarterly prizes – Participating members will be entered to win US $50 at the end of the quarter in which the referral was made. Each referral will result in one entry to win. The more referrals are made, the more chances a member has of winning. Quarterly prizes will be awarded in January (for referrals made 1 October – 31 December); April (for referrals made 1 January – 31 March); July (for referrals made 1 April – 30 June); and October (for referrals made 1 July – 30 September). Quarterly prize winners will be drawn at random.
Grand Prize – All members whose referral results in the induction of a nurse leader will be entered into a drawing to win US $250. Each referral resulting in an induction is a separate chance to win. If a referral does not result in an induction, the member is still eligible for quarterly prizes, but will not be entered into the grand prize drawing. Referred nurse leader candidates must be referred and inducted 1 October 2007 – 30 September 2008. The grand prize winner will be drawn at random.
Prizes - Chapter-Get-a-Member
Each participating chapter that inducts a minimum of 10 nurse leaders will be recognized:
- on the honor society’s Web site
- at Biennial Convention and Leadership Academy
Grand Prize – all chapters inducting the minimum of 10 nurse leaders will be entered into a drawing for one Leadership Academy (formerly Chapter Leader Academy) registration. A winner will be drawn at random.
