Guidelines for JNS Reviewers
Each manuscript submitted to the Journal of Nursing Scholarship (JNS) undergoes rigorous review by three members of the JNS Reviewer Panel. Reviews are double blind; i.e., neither the author nor the reviewer knows the identity of the other person. The editor depends greatly on critiques provided by reviewers in making decisions about manuscripts. Thus, quality of the reviews is important. The following statements indicate the requirements of reviewers and the components of reviews.
Reviewer requirements
Persons are eligible for appointment to the JNS Reviewer Panel if they (a) have completed graduate study in a health-related field or have credentials indicating advanced knowledge in the field; and (b) have published scholarly papers in peer-reviewed publications. Additional reviewers are always welcome. Persons interested in appointment to the Reviewer Panel should send an E-mail message to the editorial office with the following information:
- A statement of interest in appointment to the Reviewer Panel;
- Reviewer Data Form - please download from this Web site, complete, and send as an E-mail attachment to the editorial office (Word document);
- Reviewer Categories Form - please download from this Web site, complete, and send as an E-mail attachment to the editorial office (Excel document).
Reviewer agrees to the following:
- to receive manuscripts and submit reviews online;
- to review up to 5-6 manuscripts per year;
- to contact the editorial assistant immediately if unable to conduct the requested review;
- to conduct the requested reviews within the allotted time;
- to decline a review if the reviewer perceives any conflict of interest, such as having participated in the project reported in a manuscript;
- to respect the author's intellectual property by maintaining confidentiality of all documents and information related to a manuscript under review.
