Dear Member,

As a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), you are affiliated with a global community. Being a part of this community gives members opportunities to come together to network and collaborate. STTI events provide a great atmosphere to make connections, learn together, advance the profession and address the issues that are critical for our patients. New members and long-term members all benefit from participation.

For example, the 23rd International Nursing Research Congress in Brisbane, Australia. on 30 July – 3 August will provide a unique international forum for the exchange of evidence-based practices among nurse researchers, clinicians, educators, policy makers and administrators. More than 800 nurses from over 36 countries will converge on Brisbane to:

  • Explore creative strategies to promote excellence in nursing practice.
  • Use innovations to advance nursing science.
  • Explore opportunities for international collaboration.
  • Share evidence-based solutions to common healthcare challenges.

The Congress will offer hundreds of learning opportunities through poster sessions, concurrent sessions, workshops, special events and exhibits.  Participants will have the opportunity to network with nurse leaders from around the globe, including 14 highly esteemed nurse researchers from Africa, Asia,  Australia, and the United States who will be inducted into the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame.  This award honors STTI members who  are nurse researchers whose work has had a national or international impact. We will be honoring their achievements on 2 August in Brisbane. Those who will be in attendance for the event are encouraged to submit questions for the inductees.

If you can’t make the trip to Brisbane, STTI has a new event this year. Leadership Forum, in Indianapolis, Ind., is a unique event that provides three full-days of educational programing encompassing two "stand-alone" events. One event will focus on nursing leadership and the other will focus on chapter leadership. The schedule is jam-packed with information to take your career and your chapter to the next level.

This year, I have the pleasure of presenting the opening plenary for the Leadership Forum. As I share my personal leadership journey, I hope to set the stage to motivate and challenge participants to take charge of their own leadership development and expand their scope of influence by paying it forward.

With four different tracks for the nursing leadership sessions and four tracks for the chapter leadership sessions a wealth of information will be offered in these three days. There really is something for every level of nurse leader in this program. Both events within the Leadership Forum will include plenary and concurrent sessions, poster sessions, the STTI Info Fair, exhibits and global networking opportunities.

I encourage you to visit the conference webpage to learn more about the Research Congress and the Leadership Forum. Then I hope to greet many of you in person at these exciting events.
