Ruth Lilly Nursing Informatics Scholar

The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) is seeking candidates interested in serving as the Ruth Lilly Nursing Informatics Scholar. This scholar will work closely with the staff and services offered via the Virginia Henderson International Nursing Library (VHINL) and with the society’s subsidiary, Nursing Knowledge International. The position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

Since 1922 our purpose has been the dissemination of knowledge to our 138,000 nurse member organization. Our members are the best and the brightest in nursing. We are located in an elegant facility on the Indiana University/Purdue University campus in Indianapolis, IN.

The development of this position is made possible through a generous grant to the Virginia Henderson International Nursing Library to be used for the development of knowledge resources. The grant was given to Sigma Theta Tau International in 2000 by Ruth Lilly, an Indianapolis philanthropist. Individuals with an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution are invited to submit an application. Academic preparation in informatics is also preferred, but continuing education and grants/publications in the field of informatics are acceptable.

The scholar is expected to contribute to the vision and plan for the VHINL’s continued contributions to nursing knowledge. In order to be an effective knowledge engineer, the candidate is expected to have experience in working with databases, budget management and project management. An understanding of the nursing research vocabulary is essential, so that the scholar will organize and deliver knowledge services most efficiently. Approximately 20 hours of a candidate’s work week should be available to dedicate to this position in order to be successful in this role.

The scholar will serve in a liaison role to other organizations and vendors pursuing similar knowledge ventures. In addition, the scholar is expected to contribute in a leadership role to the nursing informatics agenda at the national and international levels. This position is currently available for a two year appointment beginning 1 July 2009. Negotiations for telecommuting are welcomed and honorarium is commensurate with experience.

Applicants should submit a letter of application that includes a 300-500 word description of the future direction of the library as a nursing knowledge resource. Applicants should also include their curriculum vitae plus the names, addresses and telephone numbers of three references.

Materials should be sent to:
