Suggestions on how members and chapters can be intentionally global. 

MEMBERS

• Identify four global health issues that influence your practice and educate yourself and your colleagues about them.

• Learn about cultural differences between two regions of the world, particularly those cultures you may encounter in your professional life.
  
  
• Seek travel opportunities that enrich your understanding of nursing and health care issues in other countries.

• Complete the training to become an honor society Ambassador and participate in a grass roots effort to educate nurses globally about the honor society and nursing.
  
  
• Undertake research that addresses the global health priorities identified by the honor society in the 2005-2007 biennium.
  
  
• Volunteer to translate honor society knowledge resources from English into another language.
  

CHAPTERS

• Induct members from other countries where chapters do not currently exist. Review membership eligibility.
  
  
• Find out what countries have chapters.
      
• Learn about what other global organizations are doing.

       - American Society of Association Executives
  
  
• Mentor developing honor societies in other countries.
• Offer educational programs that focus on international nursing and health care issues.
• Initiate dialogue with nurse leaders outside your home country about global nursing and health care issues.
• Feature global accomplishments of your chapter and its members in the newsletter, on the Web page or in e-communication.
• Heighten the global awareness of members by initiating an electronic roundtable discussion with a panel of culturally diverse nurses and consumers.
