What is an Organizational Affiliate?
Organizational Affiliates are legal organizations whose purposes, goals and initiatives are consistent with and supportive of Sigma Theta Tau International’s purposes, goals and initiatives.
Through global linkages, the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International strives to support nurses and the profession to enhance the health of all people. The honor society values the diversity of knowledge, experience, culture and beliefs of other health care organizations and believes that working together can make the most impact on health care issues.
Purpose of Organizational Affiliate Program
The honor society’s Organizational Affiliate program seeks to create a formal relationship with other nursing and health care organizations. Together, we can:
- Strengthen nursing and/or health care through knowledge dissemination, education, research, leadership and scholarship;
- Support learning and the professional development of nurses;
- Make a difference with a positive impact on health related issues.
Benefits of Being an Organizational Affiliate
Organizational Affiliates of Sigma Theta Tau International will enjoy:
- A copy of all Sigma Theta Tau International publications
- Receipt of position statements from the society
- Promotion of the Affiliation from Sigma Theta Tau International
- Greater worldwide visibility through publicity as an Organizational Affiliate of Sigma Theta Tau International
- Organizational access to honor society products and services at a preferred rate
Rights/Responsibilities of Organizational Affiliates
- Sign and adhere to letter of understanding between two organizations
- Publicize its affiliation with the Sigma Theta Tau International according to approved policy
- Access to specific Sigma Theta Tau International services at a preferred rate
- Notify any significant change in organizational structure or functions
- Notify if the organization ceases to exist
- Provide STTI with organization’s publications and updates
- Reapply for affiliation renewal every three years by submitting a report to STTI
- To have other rights as granted by the Sigma Theta Tau Board of Directors except the right to hold office and the right to vote in the Sigma Theta Tau International House of Delegates, which shall be reserved for members of Sigma Theta Tau International.
Criteria
Organizations who are applying for affiliation with Sigma Theta Tau International will be assessed against the following criteria:
- Documented mission, values, goals, objectives and strategies
- Organization’s constitution or equivalent legal structure
- Recognition as a legitimate and autonomous business entity
- Demonstrated reputation and creditability
- Formal governance by an elected Board with administrative and financial structures, processes and procedures
- Period of viable existence
- Assurance of financial integrity
- Program of nursing, research and other scholarly activities
- Contribution to the development of nursing and health care
- An active membership including a nursing component
- Communication mechanism with constituents in their state/province/country
- Ability to undertake collaborative activities
- Ethical/political considerations
