January 2013

Suzanne Prevost

Dear STTI Members,

The international board of directors met 15 January 2013 for a video conference to conduct the business of the honor society.
The following reflects the decisions made, the direction setting undertaken, and the information that was shared.

The board approved the minutes of the 27 November 2012 board of directors video conference as submitted.

The board committees and task forces will be offered the opportunity to have conference calls recorded through May 2013 as a pilot, with the recording offered to members who miss a call, and an evaluation report will be submitted to the board at the June 2013 meeting.
Terrance Barkan, of GLOBALSTRAT, is a global consultant who provided expertise on global growth strategies for international organizations to the board  for consideration about the future direction of the honor society. He is continuing to work with the staff and  the board to expand on planning for the future and will be facilitating a discussion about global issues facing STTI on 7 February 2013 at the face-to-face meeting of the board.

Chief Executive Office Patricia E. Thompson gave an update on the Chamberlain College of Nursing grant. Chamberlain will sponsor one education session at the 24th International Nursing Research Congress and two education sessions at the 42nd Biennial Convention, both of which will be held this year.
Updates were provided on the 2013 congress, which will be held in the Czech Republic 22-26 July, and Creating Healthy Work Environments, which will take place in Indianapolis, Ind., USA,  12-14 April 2013.
The STTI book Mastering Precepting: A Nurse’s Handbook for Success received two awards from the American Journal of Nursing
Joanne McGlown presented a summary of the meeting on 11 December 2012 at the United Nations in New York City, N.Y., between McGlown, Tara Hulsey, Holly Shaw, and Mr. Joop Theunissen, deputy chief of the NGO Branch, Office of ECOSOC Support and Coordination.
