Karen Helen Morin, RN, DSN

Karen H. Morin, RN, DSN

Karen Morin is President Elect of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, having been elected in 2007. She served as Director from 2003-2007. Since becoming an honor society member, she has served in numerous chapter-, regional- and international-level positions. Specifically, she served as chapter president, chapter secretary, consortium coordinator, Region 6 communications counterpart, member of the international-level Heritage, Program and Finance committees, and a grant and abstract reviewer. She also has served as a chapter chartering officer, an induction speaker and an awards judge. She is a member of 7 STTI Chapters: Nu, Eta Beta, Kappa Rho-at-Large, Beta Sigma, Tau Gamma, and Upsilon Epsilon.

In addition to being a Virginia Henderson F, Sigma Theta Tau, and Billye Brown Fellow, most recently (2003-2007), Dr. Morin has served as faculty in the STTI and Johnson Johnson Maternal-Child Health Leadership Academy Planning Committee, as well as the Board Leadership and Mentored Leadership Programs. She co-chaired the STTI/WHO Global Nursing Education Standards Conference held in Bangkok, Thailand in December, 2006.

Dr. Morin is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she serves as Director of the Graduate Programs. While her current teaching responsibilities are limited to doctoral courses, she has taught undergraduates baccalaureate courses in maternal—child health nursing, research, and leadership and management. Her teaching expertise was recognized nationally by the National League for Nursing in 2003, when she received the Excellence in Teaching Award, and also in 1999 by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses when she received the Excellence in Nursing Education Award.

Dr. Morin is an accomplished author, investigator and presenter. She has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, presented at numerous local, regional, and international conferences, and received funding to investigate the consequences of obesity during pregnancy in particular.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Ottawa, her Master of Science in Nursing from University of Central Arkansas and her Doctor of Science in Nursing from University of Alabama.
