Beth Baldwin Tigges, RN, PhD, CPNP, BC
Dr. Beth Tigges was inducted into the Beta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau at Penn State in 1979. She held her first chapter leadership position beginning in 1981 as a member of the Public Affairs Committee of the Theta Chapter at Boston University. Since that time, she has served in numerous chapter-level positions in two additional chapters (Delta Mu at Yale University and Gamma Sigma at University of New Mexico) including President, Vice-President, Counselor, and Research/Awards Chair. In 1989, she was appointed to her first international position as a member of the International Public Affairs Committee. In addition to maintaining her chapter involvement since that time, she has served at the international level of Sigma Theta Tau International on the Public Affairs Committee (1989-1993); Region 1 Coordinator (1993-1997); Publications Committee (1997-1999); Eligibility Committee (1999-2003) and, as Chair of the Governance Committee (2003-2007).
Dr. Tigges earned her B.S.N. from Pennsylvania State University, her M.S.N. as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from Yale University, and a PhD in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University in New York. She is currently an Associate Professor and the Interim Sr. Associate Dean for Research and Clinical Scholarship at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing, where she also teaches in the doctoral program. She has received NIH funding and is currently a Co-Investigator for the National Children’s Study-Study Center at the University of New Mexico.
