Melanie C. Dreher Outstanding Dean Award for Excellence in Chapter Support

Purpose

During the 1995-1997 biennium, Melanie C. Dreher, president of STTI, appointed the Deans’ Task Force to recommend strategies for orienting, involving and recognizing nursing program administrators for their support and effort in promulgating the honor society’s mission and goals. The 1997-1999 Deans’ Task Force further explored how the organization could better support nursing program administrators to develop and strengthen their support of chapters and work at the regional and global levels. In order to provide recognition, this task force recommended the creation of the Melanie C. Dreher Outstanding Dean Award, which was approved by the Board of Directors in September of 1999. The award was named after Dr. Dreher because she is an outstanding example of a dean who “lives” her commitment to STTI. In creating this award, the task force stressed that the support of deans in the success of local chapters cannot be underestimated, and there are a number of deans whose contributions have gone beyond normal expectations.
