Julie Jones, MS, RN-BC, is an EHR clinical application analyst staff RN at The University of Vermont Medical Center. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Rhode Island College and her master’s degree in the adult nurse practitioner program at the University of Vermont. Jones is a global leader of STTI as Regional Chapters Coordinating Chair. She is also a local leader in informatics as one of the founding members of the first state chapter of the American Nursing Informatics Association.
Jones was also one of the nurse leaders as an EHR clinical application analyst staff for Vermont’s largest academic medical center, The University of Vermont Medical Center, during their electronic health record implementation beginning in 2008. She championed the transition from paper based charting to a fully integrated electronic health record. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Vermont and the University of Colorado. Her master’s research focused on embracing the use of email as a mode of mentoring new graduate nurses. This study showed that the use of e-mentoring not only retained new graduate nurses but also decreased the attrition rate for the mentor or seasoned nurse. In her free time, she likes to race cars with her husband with the New England Hillclimb Association.
