Dr. Sandra Bibb is dean and professor, College of Health Professions, at Wichita State University (WSU) in Wichita, Kansas, USA, and is a member of Zeta Mu (since 1982), Tau Theta (since 2004), and Epsilon Gamma at-Large (since 2016) chapters of Sigma. Prior to joining WSU in August 2014, Dr. Bibb served as associate dean for faculty affairs from 2011 to 2014 and department chair of health systems, risks, and contingency management from 2005 to 2011 in the Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. She had been recruited to the GSN in 2004 to develop, implement, and evolve curriculum for teaching population health and population-based assessment in the Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science program. Before joining the GSN, Dr. Bibb served in the US Navy as an active duty nurse. She retired at the rank of captain (0-6) in 2004 after serving three decades in the armed forces. While on active duty, she established and served in many leadership roles where she led interprofessional healthcare teams in the design and delivery of population-based healthcare.

Dr. Bibb has over 25 years of experience in senior and executive leadership positions in military and academic settings and has served on numerous national and international review committees, boards, and task forces, including: Sigma grant reviewer; Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Pure Analytic Panel; Quorum Review IRB; TriService Nursing Research Program (TSNRP) Scientific Merit Review Panel; Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS) Awards Committee; Navy Nurse Corps Association Board of Directors; National Museum of Civil War Medicine Board of Directors; and American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Faculty Development Conference Subcommittee. She also has over 20 years of experience in designing and implementing health promotion and disease prevention programs in collaboration with interprofessional teams, with emphasis on eliminating health and healthcare disparities and promoting cultural competence.  

Dr. Bibb is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and is recognized for her research initiatives and published works related to population health and outcomes, with specific emphasis on population health management and access to care. She has received numerous professional achievement awards that include the Outstanding Military Woman of Achievement award from the San Diego County Women’s Council Navy League; Minority Access, Inc. Alumna National Role Model Citation; prestigious Hughes Career Achievement Award from the University of San Diego; Commendable Service award from the Uniformed Services University; and recognition as one of the 2011 100 Extraordinary Nurses in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Dr. Bibb has also been awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with gold star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Legion of Merit Medals for her contributions to the Navy.

Dr. Bibb looks forward to expanding her service to Sigma as a director while drawing on prior experiences of service to Sigma and advocacy in promoting population health, servant leadership, and cultural sensitivity.
