New book in Nurse Manager’s Guide series offers
practical solutions to effective staffing
STTI publishes The Nurse Manager’s Guide to Innovative Staffing

INDIANAPOLIS – Research funded by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has demonstrated that an inadequate nursing staff directly correlates with adverse patient outcomes. For busy nurse managers, effectively analyzing workforce, patient population, and organization to determine proper staffing is daunting.

The Nurse Manager’s Guide to Innovative Staffing, published by the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), provides easy-to-apply models, examples, and stories on how to obtain quality outcomes, staff satisfaction, and patient satisfaction and safety. The book’s author, Jennifer Mensik, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, is the administrator for nursing and patient care at St. Luke’s Health System in Idaho.

The fourth book in STTI’s Nurse Manager’s Guide series, The Nurse Manager's Guide to Innovative Staffing communicates a complete view of staffing for the nurse manager, including both traditional staffing models and innovative models. The guide also provides a practical resource needed to communicate innovative models and considerations for appropriate staffing that will lead to excellent patient care.

“The linkage of the achievement of optimal outcomes for patients, nurses and the organization is masterfully done. Setting the stage based on nursing principles and scope of practice provides an evidence-driven approach to this work,” says Kathy Malloch, PhD, MBA, RN, FAAN, clinical consultant to API Healthcare Inc. in Hartford, Wis.
