Permission to Use STTI Logo or Crest


If you are an STTI member, go to The Circle to download the chapter style guide and a JPEG file of the STTI logo. If you would like a vector image of the logo or crest, complete the form included in the style guide and your request will be reviewed as soon as possible.

If you are not an STTI member and would like to request use of STTI's official logo or crest, contact marketing@stti.org. In your email, provide detailed information regarding your intended use. Permission to use the logo or crest is granted on a case-by-case basis, and reasonable notice should be given. Approvals are for one-time use only.

Enhancing professional development for nurses and staff educators

INDIANAPOLIS — Providing excellent care for patients is the ultimate goal for nurses. In order to maintain a level of excellence and continue to grow their competencies levels, it is imperative that nurses have strong educational programs as a resource.

Alvin D. Jeffery, MSN, RN-BC, CCRN, FNP-BC; Anne Longo, PhD, MBA, RN-BC, NEA-BC; and Angela Nienaber, MSN, RN-BC, understand the responsibility of being a staff educator and the many steps that go into creating a successful education program. Together, these nurse leaders have created a detailed, quick reference guide that aids in every step; from designing, developing, and analyzing professional development activities, to evaluating growth and performance for nurses.

Staff Educator’s Guide to Professional Development: Assessing and Enhancing Nurse Competency, published by the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), is fundamental for both new and seasoned nurse educators. Organized according to the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) model, this book includes many practical tools, notes, ready-to-use worksheets, and tables to help educate nurses for success.

According to the authors, “Staff educators must expand their own practice of education by understanding the competencies of other healthcare disciplines that interact with nursing. As health care continues to change, new roles are cropping up, and historical roles are being redefined. And all of these changes come with students. The staff educator must understand these roles in order to educate the nurse learner.”
This is the second book in STTI’s Staff Educator’s Guide series, which also includes Staff Educator’s Guide to Clinical Orientation.

About the authors
Alvin D. Jeffery, MSN, RN-BC, CCRN-F, FNP-BC, is an education consultant at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center’s Center for Professional Excellence/Education, where he serves as unit-based educator in pediatric intensive care. He is an adjunct instructor with several colleges and universities.

Anne Longo, PhD, MBA, RN-BC, NEA-BC, is senior director for the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center’s Center for Professional Excellence/Education and has worked in staff development for 25 years.

Angela Nienaber, MSN, RN-BC, is an education consultant for the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center’s Center for Professional Excellence/Education. She has also served as unit-based educator for the Cardiac Step-down Unit at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and adjunct clinical faculty at The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
