These positions serve a two-year term. Members are elected at the biennial convention by the House of Delegates.
Sigma Theta Tau International Board of Directors – Responsible for goal-setting, planning, policy development, resource development, corporate oversight, evaluation and decision-making for STTI on behalf of the membership.
Governance Committee – Oversees bylaws compliance, makes recommendations for bylaws changes and oversees member and chapter eligibility issues.
Leadership Succession – Develops members in organizational leadership roles across the span of their careers, mentors members to assume organizational board and officer positions at all levels of the organization, and selects nominees and prepares biennial ballot.
Regional Chapter Coordinating Committee Chair – Provides leadership to enhance and advance the development of chapter in fulfilling the purpose of STTI, serves as a resource for the regional chapters coordinators.
Regional Chapters Coordinating Committee (RCCC) – Provides leadership that establishes and maintains networks for communication and sharing among chapters, regional committee members and members of other international committees; develops a vision and leads STTI initiatives to support and maintain the vitality of chapters.
Subsidiary Boards of Directors
Sigma Theta Tau International Foundation for Nursing Board of Directors – Supports STTI through active fundraising and conscientious stewardship. Governance and fundraising are the focus of board activities.
International Honor Society of Nursing Building Corporation Board of Directors – Holds title to real and personal property for the benefit of Sigma Theta Tau International, Inc.
Nursing Knowledge International™ Board of Directors – Serves the global community of nursing by providing knowledge and professional development services that increase nurse satisfaction and enhance nurse effectiveness and ultimately patient care.
International-Level Volunteer Positions
Abstract/Grant Peer Reviewer – Evaluates abstracts via online process for evidence-based nursing sessions, biennial conventions and international research congresses.
Awards Judge – Serves on a committee of up to three judges to review assigned international or regional award submissions and select winning entry by popular vote. Indicate your interest by completing or updating your Volunteer Interest Profile (VIProfile).
Book Proposal Reviewer – Evaluates book proposals to determine suitability for publication by STTI. In keeping with usual book publishing practices, the identity of the author/editor will be disclosed to reviewers, but the reviewers’ identities will not be known to the author/editor.
Career Advisor – Responds to telephone or e-mail inquiries for advice and support on questions regarding nursing as a career.
Continuing Education Author – Creates educational activities for online continuing education.
Event Volunteer – Helps headquarters staff with various aspects of events, including but not limited to, registration, session support, meal event usher, hospitality booth and House of Delegates. Indicate your interests after you have registered for upcoming STTI events.
Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy Mentor– Mentors during an 18-month leadership experience for nurses, learning methodologies utilized throughout the academy including content in leadership theory and skills; leadership self-assessment and development; inter-professional team development, project development, management and evaluation; and dissemination of lessons learned as well as project outcomes.
Global Ambassador – Helps increase STTI's visibility and membership base by educating nurses about the honor society and nursing and, when applicable, encouraging membership and promoting chapter development.
Journal of Nursing Scholarship Author – The official journal of Sigma Theta Tau International, the Journal of Nursing Scholarship (JNS), is one of the most widely read and respected health care journals.

Maternal-Child Health Leadership Academy Mentor – Led by nationally-known experts in maternal-child health and organizational development. This 18-month leadership development experience is designed to prepare and position nurses and nurse midwives to influence practice and patient outcomes.
Peer Reviewer – Assists STTI by reviewing submissions for the International Nursing Research Congress, Biennial Convention and Small Grants program.
Reflections on Nursing Leadership Author – Authors for the Reflections on Nursing Leadership e-magazine assist STTI in communicating nurses’ contributions and relevance to the health of people worldwide.
STTI/NKI Booth Volunteer – Represents STTI at the presence event booth that is shared by Nursing Knowledge International and Sigma Theta Tau International. Duties would include: promoting membership in STTI, answering membership questions, assisting with renewals and selling honor society publications and/or products.

Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing Author – A quarterly, peer-reviewed, evidence-based nursing journal and information resource from the Honor Society of Nursing and Blackwell Publishing Ltd.

Members are appointed by the Regional coordinator at the start of each biennium.
Regional Committee Member – Works with regional coordinator to meet the needs and priorities of the region, in areas that could include but are not limited to: awards/recognition, communication, mentoring, member involvement and programs.
Chapter Leader – Leads and coordinates local operations including induction, governance, programming, finance and scholarship activities.
Chapter Committee – Prepares, reviews and makes recommendations regarding policies corresponding to its area of responsibility for board of directors’ approval.
