The Honor Society of Nursing Announces the 2014-2015
Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy
Premier nurse mentoring program is funded by The Elsevier Foundation
INDIANAPOLIS—The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) announced today that it will begin taking applications 26 August for its Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy. STTI’s International Leadership Institute administers the academy mentoring program thanks to a generous grant from The Elsevier Foundation.
The Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy is a prestigious, highly selective 18-month program that pairs high-potential nurses in faculty roles at colleges and universities with experienced mentors who have demonstrated success as faculty leaders. Since 2009, the academy has paired more than 30 mentors and mentees (referred to as scholars) from nearly 30 universities, 15 states and provinces, and several countries. Based on curriculum developed by leadership experts, the Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy:
• Fosters success early in a nurse’s academic career,
• Promotes nurse faculty retention and satisfaction,
• Develops personal leadership skills, and
• Cultivates high-performing, supportive work environments in academic institutions.
“The Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy is a gratifying partnership,” said Elsevier Foundation Executive Director David Ruth. “We are proud that this program continues to be so successful and look forward to helping educate and position tomorrow’s health care professionals for success throughout their careers. Through Sigma Theta Tau International and the Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy we are confident that we can help current nurse leaders become outstanding educators for the next generation of nurse professionals.”
“As a global organization that brings together top-performing nurses in all disciplines of the profession, STTI has a vested interest in developing nurses as collegiate faculty leaders and future deans,” said STTI President Suzanne Prevost, PhD, RN, COI. “Scholars and mentees in the Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy grow and change in powerful ways in a short period of time. It is rewarding to consider the meaningful ways they impact their own careers and those of their students.”
For 90 years, STTI has honored the best and brightest women and men in nursing. The society provides its members with exclusive programs, resources, and opportunities such as those offered through the International Leadership Institute, including the Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy.
Prospective mentor/mentee (scholar) pairs may submit applications for the new Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy cohort from 26 August 2013 through 31 December 2013. The 2014-2015 cohort will begin in early 2014. Program details, including information about identifying a potential mentor or mentee, are available at www.nursingsociety.org/LeadershipInstitute
